Sarah Elgart is a choreographer and filmmaker active in democratizing dance, challenging the notion of
what is and is not a stage, and placing dance in the foreground of community and commerce. She is the
Founder and Artistic Director of Dare to Dance in Public Film Festival (D2D).
As a choreographer Sarah has created site-specific performances that have been presented at locations
including the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Jacob’s Pillow, INSITU Site-Specific Festival in
NYC, Dance Place (D.C.), MASS MoCA, Die Arc for the European Culture Capitol (Belgium), The Music
Center, and the Bradbury Building. She has worked with iconic directors including JJ Abrams, David
Lynch, and Anton Corbijn, and her own films have played at festivals internationally receiving awards and
accolades including an Emmy nomination. A two-time alum of the Sundance Institute Dance Film Lab
and AFI’s Directing Women’s Workshop, Elgart worked with Dance Camera West Film Festival in various
capacities for nearly seven years and writes regularly about the intersections of dance and film for various
publications including DIY Dancer and Cultural Daily.
