Berlin Commercial 2022 - Our Top 10

Last week we had the pleasure of attending the latest edition of Berlin Commercial - a Curation Hour network member. The festival spanned over several days, bringing together directors and production companies from Berlin and beyond. Though there was so much great content across commercial work, music videos and personal projects, we obviously had our favourites.

Here’s our top 10.

Skins. Directed by Adrian Suarez

Skins establish a parallelism between the human being and Earth through a common vehicle: our skin.

Terra Cene. Directed by Nono Ayuso + Rodrigo Inada

Terra Cene is a remembrance of the past and an observation of the interconnected nature of time on Earth. Directors Rodrigo Inada and NONO reimagine the 1977 Golden Record challenging our perception of time while dissecting its motivations.

Crazy. Directed by C Prinz

This film is an expansive metaphor embodying the hardships women go through in their ascension to power. It’s a piece that challenges the viewer to look at stigmatized imagery and asks them to see beyond their first impression–to see the female form not in moments of sexuality but instead in moments of truth, intensity and power; to see a woman wielding a gun; to see a woman express vivid, honest emotions.

Ali. Directed by Julien Soulier

On a beach in the south of France, the young Ali spins over a high bar. This modern-day acrobat introduces us to another form of gymnastics, the one of the street. An undisciplined discipline.

Avril 14th - Zara Origins. Directed by Roger Guàrdia

A visual experience based on APHEX TWIN's song Avril 14th for the new Origins collection by Zara.

Uprooted. Directed by Andzej Gavriss

Displacement crisis has reached 100 million people globally. 60+ Ukrainian refugees were involved in making the film, sending a message of support to all refugees. The film focuses on the PTSD that people experience after fleeing the war.

Motomami - Rosalia. Directed by Daniel Sannwald

Motomami is packed with references to the genres in which Rosalia dabbles—among her many namedrops are Willie Colón, Fania Records, the reggaeton duo Plan B, and her friend Frank Ocean, with whom she’s collaborated on music not yet released.

Come Grow With Us. - Reebok x Zalando. Directed by Harun Güler

An invitation to take on the challenge of creating a more sustainable future.

Peso Raws IV - Peso. Directed by Ivo Heffner

The fashion film promotes the new RAWS collection through a mixed media approach, achieved through an elaborate post-production with analog workflow.

It Gets Dark - Sigrid. Directed by Femke Huurdeman

Femke's music video for Sigrid's new single takes the BBC Sound winner into a kaleidoscopic space journey.
